Conditional Sentences

There are four types of conditional Sentences

    • Zero Conditional (REAL Condition) Used for facts:

Formula:  If Clause (Present Indefinite), Main Clause (Present Indefinite).

    1. If the sun sets, it gets dark.

    • First Conditional (REAL/POSSIBLE Condition):

These sentences express a real or possible condition.

Formula:  If Clause (Present Indefinite), Main Clause (Future Indefinite).

    1. If you come here, I shall help you.              

    1. If she goes to school, she will get award.

    • Second Conditional: (Unreal Condition)

These sentences express imaginary condition.

Formula: If Clause (Simple Past), Main Clause (Would/should/could + V1).

    1. If you worked hard, you would win prizes.

    1. If I were a student, I would work hard.

    • Third Conditional: (Unchangeable Past Condition)

These sentences express unchangeable past condition.

Formula:   If Clause (Past perfect), Main Clause (Would have + V3).

    1. If he had worked hard, he would have passed.

    1. If I had gone there, I would have met him.
